Team
Ali Fish
Ali has a warm, easy going and non-judgemental approach and believes that the connection and trust is paramount in the therapist and client relationship. She believes that people are the experts in their own lives and draws on their existing resources. She is passionate about ensuring that people are able to access appropriate and effective support to work through life’s challenges. Underpinning all of Ali’s work is a person centred and strengths-based approach, where counselling can happen within the context of a safe, supportive and respectful therapeutic relationship.
Ali’s therapeutic approach is tailored to the young person and adult, informed by trauma informed care, gender and neuro affirming practices, polyvagal theory, internal family systems, attachment theory and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing therapy (EMDR). She also believes that humour and flexibility is important where appropriate.
She has a particular interest in working with young people, LGBTIQA+ community and people within the disability community.
Ali had the privilege of working in a number of public and private settings including three Royal Commissions, with a particular focus on people with disability. Through this work she had the privilege of developing a deeper understanding of institutional abuse and the experience of living with complex trauma. She is passionate in treating trauma, including PTSD, survivors of sexual abuse and family violence, and individuals struggling with the effects of attachment trauma.
Ali will work with you in a flexible way that is guided by you and your needs. She acknowledges that life experience and less formality can be important to some people when trying to connect with a therapist and will take your lead on what has worked in the past and what hasn’t worked in a therapeutic setting.
When Ali is not at the practice, you might find her in the ocean, running or starting a new project she doesn’t finish.
